As eating dinner [tonight] my fortune cookie was "for good luck" "go home." This has many values, and it is important to look at it from a metaphorical sense, not literal, or fixed. Good luck can mean or have meaning of positive, or beneficial effect towards the mystery. And go can mean "discover" or "look" or "do" To see, or go to that desired path. Home however shouldn't be merely addressed as a physical structure, or a place we live in a physical sense. There is a quote "home is where the heart is", and home is a structure or foundation that resides around the heart, or within.
So a possible meaning of the fortune was: in order to be effected by beneficial occurrences within the mystery, or life, one must seek where the heart truly is.
I think it is proper to ask a question before opening a fortune cookie, because what is an answer without a question? The question creates a query or input, so the answer has more meaning. My question was: what is one of the valuable things to learn today. It was simple. The answer will only come based on what I have learned. Then the answer is more processed, and has more value. The value isn't within the fortune, but what I have discovered. The fortune, like any other divination works as a mere guide, not a direct answer.
In life it is important to understand the value of a query from a metaphorical sense. It is similar in mathematics where we got the implication component. First in any query there is the first implication component, and that is the "idea". Next is the "connector", then third is the "conclusion". The connector connects the idea to the conclusion. Every logical system works in this matter, where the connector operates as a process, to process the idea, so it can have a conclusion. But let us only look at this not from a logical systematic point of view, but metaphorically. The idea is an idea, a place to start, where many questions follow the idea. The actual processing is based on what we learn through experience, and how aware we are of those experiences, and choices we make, and what we learn. We will eventually find greater meaning. The greater meaning is the conclusion, and this process is eternal. It isn't fixed but a ongoing journey of learning new things.
We start at an idea, then questions, or questions leading to the idea, then at the presence tense this is processed through life experiences. Then future tense leads is the result, or conclusion. But the conclusion shouldn't be confused with the end, or the destination, but another beginning, to learn new experiences.
In budo shodan is a principle, a symbol that means "new beginning". Americans understand this as black belt rank, and black belt is not a fixed destination, but a new beginning. There are many levels in black belt, then goes to Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan, Rokudan, Renshi, Shihan. I don't think of them as ranks, but levels. Those who train in true budo it takes a human life time to accomplish, if they are experienced enough, and it doesn't end there. To any master or teacher of the arts, there is always more to learn.
In mathematics the implication components are used in logic of practicality in logical reasoning, but the principles can be used in life if one sees them and applies them in a more metaphorical sense, and meaning. It is like the idea becomes many ideas, as it is processed, and split into the many.... Then through learning life experiences, a result or answer is reached, but with each answer, new ideas, and is a new beginning for infinite discovery
I really love the meaning of fortune cookies, for its symbolism, and wisdom. Many people in certain areas look at it so literal, and obvious, in many western type nations. But that ruins or the whole idea of them. You see, the cookie represents the mystery. The mystery is like this egg, which holds something which is hidden from the outside. This which is hidden can only be known from the inside, and once it is divided, that which is hidden, is revealed. This what is hidden has value. The value can only be understood by seeking the answer, and this answer isn't fixed, but metaphoric, and can mean many things. It can't be understood by merely seeing such knowledge, but experiencing and learning, which is in connection with it, then one discovers such answers on their own, and by being guiding. The fortune serves as guidance, so one can discover their greater potential.
I think it is more practical to ask a question: like divination. Not a materialistic or self interest question, but a question that has more life value meaning. Then the answer is not the fortune, where the fortune only acts as a guide, or inspiration, where the answer lies within us. It is a natural learning process, this isn't based on a mere answer by seeking. but discovering naturally through life experiences. We only seek the idea, or the question, then we discover the answer when we are ready.
It is a life long journey to learn the many answers, and these answers are eternal.
